在做静态屏息的时候,我们又回到了水中——这是当我们还未出生之时就无比熟悉的环境。身体浸入温暖的液体,意识存在,但时间感,语言和自我边界都模糊了。出生以前,每一个我们都是天然的“当下觉知者”。没有过去和未来,没有评判,没有“做”,只有存在和全然当下,只有身体和环境融为一体的感知。

在出生之后,我们习得经验,从“存在”走向“判断”。在这样的经验之中,我们得以在新的世界里生存下来,并且构建出了另一个世界里的自我认同。

非语言的自己,非评价的自己,非目标的自己。这么说来,我们一直非常努力想要达到的境界,就是通过“经验”的考验,回归尚未“经验”的自己。

静态屏息进行一段时间后,判断与经验就会化作无数无形的灵感与念头,从各个角落尝试遁入“当下觉知”的状态之中。与它们战斗或者尝试丢掉经验基本是徒劳,只能尝试看见它们并且穿透它们。而每个自由潜水者都会在重复的潜水练习中获得最适合自己的方法。

理论爱好者会把这些方法归纳与于”正念“的范畴,然而,这些方法的所属权在于每个人自身。在”当下觉知“的状态之下,是否正确”正念“已经完全不再重要。

失去时间的感知——我发现很多潜水者在静态屏息后往往都会对自己已经“屏息了这么长时间”的一个事实而感到大吃一惊。“当下的心流”对于觉知者本身仿佛只有一瞬。

这是“失去时间”的主观与客观之间的评价差别。客观世界无法直接理解这种对时间的感知,它只能用秒表来衡量,这种‘一瞬即永恒’的体验。

这是多么神奇的体验!

When practicing static apnea, we return once again to the water — a place intimately familiar to us long before we were born.

The body is immersed in warm liquid, awareness is present, yet the sense of time, language, and self-boundaries begins to blur. Before birth, each of us was a natural “being-in-the-present.” There was no past or future, no judgment, no doing — only presence, only the pure immediacy of existence, a perception in which body and environment were one.

After birth, we begin to accumulate experience — shifting from pure being to judgment. These experiences allow us to survive in this new world and gradually build a constructed sense of identity within it.

”The self without language. The self without evaluation. The self without goals.“

In this sense, what we have been striving so hard to achieve — is, through the trials of experience, a return to the self that existed beyond experience.

As static apnea progresses, judgment and experience start to dissolve into countless formless thoughts and impressions, trying to slip into the state of present-moment awareness from every possible angle. Fighting them, or trying to discard experience, is often futile. All we can do is see through them — and every freediver eventually discovers their own way through this, found only in the repetition and rhythm of breath-hold practice.

Theoretically inclined minds may categorize these methods under the term “mindfulness.” But the ownership of these methods belongs to each individual. In a state of pure present awareness, whether something qualifies as “mindfulness” is no longer of any real importance.

Losing the sense of time — Many divers are often surprised to realize how long they’ve actually been holding their breath. To the one who is deeply present, the flow of time feels like only a fleeting moment.

This is the contrast between the subjective and the objective in the perception of “losing time.”

The objective world cannot directly comprehend this way of experiencing time — it can only measure with a stopwatch, never truly grasping the feeling of a moment that stretches into eternity.

And what an extraordinary experience that is!
