Scroll down for English version

What a Strange Thing

All beings in the natural world, as well as all creatures and forms of existence in their natural habitats, and the ways of life and existence of both sentient and insentient beings, are inherently present in their rightful place.

This is the relationship and connection each of these entities shares with the greater natural world and the universe. These connections are treasures that belong uniquely to each being.

But why does it seem so strange now?

Things from Environment B, upon encountering the way of existence in Environment A, find it novel. They begin to culturally package the way of life and things in Environment A.

Focusing on the unique treasures of things in Environment A, the entities from Environment B start to interpret these things they’ve never encountered through the so-called “B-environment meanings,” and try to assign their own significance, even elevating and pursuing it.

For example, a stone, after millions of years, travels from the depths of Mother Earth to the surface, eroded, transported, and deposited by natural forces, until it finally meets a human—an entity that exists for but a moment in this vast universe.

Yet humans begin to classify stones according to the rarity of their materials—dividing them into grades. Or they assign them human cultural values, such as “jade culture.”

But for the stone, has humanity ever possessed it even for a second? Has it ever distinguished itself from other stones based on its own rarity? For eternal things, their true treasure lies in their connection with nature and the universe. They remain indifferent to the judgments and cultural packaging imposed by others.

Take, for instance, some people living in certain environments who gather wild fruits and mushrooms for food, drink from mountain springs, and practice self-sustaining agriculture.

This is the most ordinary way of life for the residents of a particular natural habitat. Yet, it is considered a luxury by urban humans who have never truly experienced such an environment, and they endow it with cultural packaging.

“Organic,” “pristine,” “natural,” “a sense of ritual.”

City dwellers take these labels, package another’s way of life, and then learn to sell it to other urbanites.

But these things, these ways of life, never truly belonged to those who packaged them.

City dwellers think they’ve uncovered something profound. However…

These city dwellers have never had the right to commercialize the ways of life and existence that belong to other beings in this great natural world!

In human circles, the game of “judging and assigning meanings to others and other beings” is played with relentless enthusiasm, and it is considered “wisdom.”
